How Adjustable-Firmness Mattresses Work

An adjustable-firmness mattress lets you alter support after installation. Adjustable-air designs typically do this by changing pressure inside internal air chambers beneath the comfort layers.

Support core

Air pressure becomes an adjustable part of the support system. Increasing or decreasing pressure changes how the bed supports the sleeper.
