What Is an Air-Chamber Mattress?

An air-chamber mattress uses sealed air chambers as an adjustable part of its support core. It is not the same thing as a temporary inflatable guest mattress.

How it works

A pump and control system changes pressure inside the chamber. Comfort materials sit above the chamber so the sleeper is not lying directly on an inflatable surface.

Why multiple chambers matter

Separate chambers can enable independent partner settings or zoned support, depending on the design. More chambers are useful only when the controls and construction make those zones independently meaningful.

What can require service?

Pumps, chambers, hoses, connectors and controls add serviceable components that fixed foam or coil mattresses do not have. Check warranty coverage for components before buying.
